Upper Key Stage 2 Craft Afternoon
This is a great Mother’s Day craft for little ones, because it’s so easy and quick. Simply use green paper clips for the stems, and attach flower stickers to the tip of the paper clips. They stick very well. If you want the flower to be one dimensional, cut a small square/circle to cover the sticky part of the flower on the back. These make better bookmarks because they are flat. For a fun 3D flower, use the same flower and glue it to the other side! These little bugs are so cute and fun to make. You can use our Acrylic Stone Magnet Kit which comes with stones, markers, magnets and glue. You can choose to decorate your own bugs with markers and add white paper circles, or use your favorite decorative paper. For the DIY method, cut out a 1.5×1.5 inch square for each pattern you want to make. Spread clear glue on the bottom of the stone (a paintbrush makes it easier to spread), then press the stone onto the paper. Let it dry for about a minute. Then cut off the excess paper, following the circle and staying as close to the edge of the stone as possible. Now glue on the wiggly eyes. Kids will love making these cute bugs and can choose mom’s favorite colors!
Diffusion paper is a great craft because it will come out unique each time. Our color bursting flowers are perfect for Mother’s Day gifts. First, draw any design you want on a blank white flower with a permanent marker. Then drip liquid watercolor onto the flower. You can drip colors in each corner of the flower. Colors will spread and spread together. Permanent marker does not bleed. Use as many colors as you want! You can also use liquid watercolors without markers for a more natural look.
Dragonflies are a great spring craft and make a cute magnet for mom! I loved using our flat clothespins for the bodies of the dragonflies. It gives them personality! Then I used craft sticks for the wings. Paint 1 clothes pin and 2 craft sticks with acrylic paint. For the dragonflies I used metallic acrylic paint. Wait for the paint to dry and glue the wings. Add moving eyes and a magnet strip on the back and you’ve got a cute Mother’s Day gift!

Flowers make the perfect craft for Mother’s Day. These clay flowers are fun to decorate, and kids can make mom a whole garden! Use small cookie cutters or make your own shapes with air dry clay that you can paint with acrylic paint, or colored clay sticks to make flowers. Mold the clay into a small, flat piece. Using the paper plate as your surface, push the cookie cutter into the clay. The excess soil from the outside should peel off easily. Now that you have your flower, push the end of a green paper clip into the bottom of the flower. This is the rod! So the flower can stand, make a base by rolling a small ball of clay between your hands. Push the other end of the paper clip into the base. Allow the soil to dry overnight. Then paint the flower and base with acrylic paint.
Moms can use these decorative plaques to brighten up any room! Our wooden boards are great for decoupage. This craft is a little more challenging and best for kids ages 8 and up. Spread Mod Podge over the plaque with a paintbrush. Cover the entire surface. Cut a piece of tissue paper or decorative paper and place it carefully on the plate.
Tip: Cut the tissue paper into a square with an extra inch on each side so you can cover the sides of the plank.
Spread more Mod Podge on tissue paper. Use a paintbrush to fold the excess tissue paper over the sides. You can layer colors to get a sunset look like we did in the photo. Once it’s dry, use a ruler to trim the excess paper to follow the contours of the board. Use sticker letters or cut out letters from magazines to write a message for mom! Cover again with Mod Podge and let dry.

Here is another craft that kids can do with clay. They can make rings and ring holders for mom. I chose a heart shape, but they can choose any shape they like. Mold the clay into shape and then curve the edges to create a bowl-like shape. For the ring holder, roll a piece of clay in your hand and place it in the center of the ring holder.
Tip: Use the end of a plastic spoon to flatten the piece of clay so it blends into your shape.
This Mother’s Day craft only takes 10 minutes and uses few ingredients. Using our canvas panels, glue in any pattern you like. Allow the glue to dry completely on the canvas. Then paint watercolors or liquid watercolors on the canvas, mixing different colors together. Mom can use a cute mini easel to display it at home!

With Halloween coming up this week, it’s only fitting that I share some great Halloween crafts with you all. Halloween is the first fun holiday of the holiday trifecta.. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Kids love it because they can be someone else and get rewarded for it. Paper Plates and Crepe Paper Ghosts: What’s Halloween without ghosts??? These adorable ghost friends can be made using paper plates (anywhere) and crepe paper or tissue paper (Dollar Tree) markers for the face and white construction paper for the body parts you want to add. Oh and don’t forget the glue! Sit at the table with this craft, and your little one will have a good time with the ghost!!
