Sometimes when dreams meet real life (aka your budget), decorating can be a little frustrating. It doesn’t have to be, though!
If you’re moving into your first place, your living room needs updating, or like me, you don’t want to spend a lot of money on furniture that might not fit in your next apartment, it’s possible to find quality furniture on a budget. .
You just need to know where to shop, and I’m sharing all my secrets (and not secrets) below!
Below I am sharing 10 different cheap places to buy furniture. And there’s something here for every budget, whether you’re looking for freebies, have cash to burn or even have a few thousand to spend.
Best Places To Buy Home Decor
A furniture store is exactly what it sounds like: a discount furniture store. Depending on the store, the furniture you find may be brand new (often worn in some fashion) or even gently used.
For example, many of the furniture pictured in this article came from my local CORT certification center. All of the furniture is well made and has a wide variety of styles, from modern to medieval to traditional.
Most cities have furniture storage centers. Look for stores that offer quality furniture. Be sure to shop around to get a general idea of how much something is worth…sometimes the discount isn’t much.
Another option is to shop at thrift stores, such as HomeGoods, as well as discount furniture stores, such as Bob’s Discount Furniture. Don’t forget, online places like Joss and Main and One Kings Lane, which sell beautiful furniture and accessories at discounted prices. Prices really vary at these stores, from steals to bargains…don’t rush to settle!
The Best Places To Buy Furniture In Barcelona
Big box stores are one of the best places to shop for furniture on a budget! You know the ones…Target, Home Depot, IKEA, World Market, etc. These are places where all your furniture and maybe even groceries.
In these stores, you will find inexpensive styles ranging from classic to modern. And if you’re starting from scratch, you’ll likely find everything you need to furnish your home… from plates to rugs to bedding (and more).
When buying furniture from supermarkets, you have to be reasonable about the quality. Often (though not always) cheap prices equate to poor workmanship.
The parts you buy at the big box store may not last your lifetime, so think carefully before you buy. If you’re shopping online, measure carefully before you click to buy.
Best Places To Buy Outdoor Furniture In Orlando
Tip: Don’t be afraid to ask for discounts or ask about rewards programs! World Market, for example, is currently offering 20% off to first responders, healthcare workers, and teachers (through 3/1/21).
Department stores, like Macy’s, tend to sell high-quality types of furniture, but they’re not exactly known for their deals and steals. Hear me out though!
If you want to find affordable furniture at a department store, then you should wait for the big sale. Shop around and find the furniture you like, then be patient.
Many supermarkets also offer coupons. To get the best prices at these stores, you’ll need to use coupons in addition to the purchase price.
How To Choose The Best Online Furniture Stores
Sales are frequent these days! So sign up for email updates and then wait for sales announcements and exclusive coupons to be posted.
Of course, it’s unlikely you’ll visit a grocery store and find exactly what you’re looking for on your first visit. The range is constantly changing, and some seven-day shops don’t carry furniture, so you’ll have to do some research.
My best advice for producing is to make a list of everything you are looking for. Then visit your favorite stores often…at least once a week. Finally, the object of the dream will appear!
Vintage shops are another option. These shops seem to be carefully decorated and therefore more expensive than the souvenir shops. That doesn’t mean you won’t get the occasional deal, though.
When Is The Best Time To Buy Furniture?
When you see something you like, examine it carefully. Avoid damage that cannot be easily repaired.
Why can’t you find it on Amazon these days? Not much! And Amazon is a great source for affordable home decor.
They carry everything from lamps to beds to couches… and more! Just like big box stores, you can really build your home from top to bottom.
When shopping on Amazon, always read reviews carefully. You will find popular makeup brands, such as Safavieh, sold together and poorly made. And sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference… learn from other people’s mistakes (ha)!
Contemporary, Mid Century & Modern Furniture
If you have friends or family with good taste, there’s always a chance you’ll inherit their fall. Especially if you drop a few pointers.
Do you need a dining table or two tables? Tell your circle that you are trying to put your furniture away. You never know what they can offer you for a low price or even for free.
Of course, someone else’s dining room table may not be your style. A little paint or new fabric can go a long way though! Plus, you can always change these things below.
Surrender is also the best way to cut a new house when you’re just starting out. So don’t be afraid to ask for a little help to get started.

Are there any generous friends? Check out Freecycle! Someone in your community may have a gem to give away for free. One of my friends won a great, beautiful rug on Freecycle…you never know what you’ll find!
The difference is that while a clearance store usually carries a variety of brands (or even no-name brands), the stores look like cheaper brands than your favorite stores, such as Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, or Room & Board.
The stock in these stores changes frequently, so visit often. And for the best deals, be sure to shop during the sales.
Home and yard sales are the best places to find cheap furniture. Like thrift shopping, these pop-up sales can be hit or miss, but they’re one of the best and most fun ways to find unique or even antique pieces.
Expert Advice: When Is The Best Time To Buy Furniture?
As with development, the more you visit, the better your chances of finding something you like. And go early! If you sleep, the best opportunities will be lost.

The last place I would suggest looking for affordable furniture is online classifieds. These ads can range from national websites, such as Craigslist, to local groups that you can find on social media, such as Facebook Marketplace.
Many times, browsing online brands is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but with a little persistence you can find some great deals.
As with furniture in retail stores, you’ll want to carefully examine everything you find. And don’t be afraid to flip a little!
