North Carolina artist and interior decorator with her own fabric and home decor collection March 28, 2023 Our dining room table was one of the first pieces of furniture we bought when we got married. We poked around this table and found some simple dining chairs to go with it. These are a super clean new creation from Ikea and they fit perfectly on the sloping legs of our table. So we’ve been using Orla Kiely cushioned reclining chairs for the past few years. I’m a big fan of the Orla print, but our seat cushions have seen better days. I sewed and re-sewed each button several times, so I decided it was time for an update.
The seats are covered in dark brown microsuede, which is quite boring. So to recreate them, I made my own fabric on Zazzle. It adds color and style to make it a little more special than the usual IKEA. Now I can’t stop starting it! This is probably one of my favorite house projects to date and one of the easiest.
Zazzle offers several types of fabric (7 to be exact) so you can find the perfect material for your project. Each has a fabric guide that explains the differences between them and their recommended uses. I used a polyester poplin fabric which proved to be a great fit for the seat cushions. It is a durable woven polyester fabric that is wrinkle-free and lightweight. I went with a modern flower stem pattern in bright yellow. Bold prints and bold colors – our dining room chairs are just what you need!
Below is my process for reupholstering a chair and how I create the perfect angle every time!
Villa Printed Fabric Contemporary Dining Chairs (set Of 2)
Supplies: Upholstered chair / fabric / staple remover / staple gun + staples / fabric scissors / screwdriver / pliers (for removing stubborn staples) / ScotchGard fabric spray (optional)
To keep the fabrics looking nice and fresh, I spray each pillow with a light coat of scotchguard spray and let it dry completely before putting it back together. This piece is optional, but a little stain protection never hurts, especially if your chairs are near dining like mine.
What furniture do you want to change? This is a fun weekend project, and if you’ve never made one before, chair cushions are a great place to start!

Spring is coming, I can’t wait! I made my first spring dress in a flowy, fun way from @stylemakerfabrics spring launch. There are so many beautiful flowers, it’s hard to choose just one! I’ve had my eye on @papercutpatterns’ #celestiadress for a long time (up to 63.7″ hips) and have been waiting to make just the right fabric. I can’t wait for warmer weather to wear them! This is a 1″ B view taken from the bottom 2 levels, because I’m 5’3″ and I shortened the center back tie by about 10 inches so there isn’t much room for the back tie. #menjahit #babylockambassador #sewingreels #millenialsewing #sewingyourown #gift
