How Long Did It Take To Make Avatar Movie – How long did Avatar 2 take to make? Avatar: The Way of Water is set to drop on Disney+, but why did the sequel take so long to come out?

2022 was an amazing year for movies, whether it was Top Gun: Maverick, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, or The Batman, or horror bangers like X, Pearl, Barbarian and Knop.

How Long Did It Take To Make Avatar Movie

And yet, we ended up with the biggest of them all: Avatar 2, the long-awaited, highly-anticipated sequel to the highest-grossing movie of all time. James Cameron is back, and we should never doubt the return of the King.

Avatar: The Way Of Water Review

Unlike the MCU, DCEU and Star Wars, there’s only been one Avatar movie, with Cameron refusing to release the sequel until it’s ready – so why did Avatar 2 take so long?

Avatar: The Way of Water took 12 years to make, with the sequel not starting production until August 2017.

In 2006, three years before the release of the first movie, Cameron said that if Avatar was a hit, there would be a sequel. In 2010, the film was still dominating multiplexes, confirming that there would be a sequel.

Initially, the Avatar franchise was touted as a trilogy, with the director planning to shoot them back to back. A year later, he confirmed that he was planning a total of four sequels. Cameron has since said that if Avatar 2 doesn’t make enough money, the fourth and fifth movies won’t go ahead.

Does Anyone Know When The 4k Blu Ray Of Avatar Will Release? (already Oktober? And Also The Hfr Version Too?)

Given Avatar’s titanic success (sorry), most moviegoers would have expected a follow-up by now. Well, in true Cameron fashion, the movie was originally planned for a 2014 release date, but the technological advancements needed to make The Way of Water a reality caused the project to endure several delays; Eight, to be exact.

As the title suggests, Avatar 2 will be set mostly in and around water. This proved to be a major factor in the film’s lengthy production, as Cameron had to develop the technology to nail motion-capture underwater. “It sounds like nuts, the process. I mean, if Avatar hadn’t made so much money, we would never have done this — because it’s kind of crazy,” he said.

There is also a 3D element, which was the main selling point of the first film. As of 2016, Cameron was talking about filming in theory using a glasses-free form of 3D, but later admitted the technology wasn’t there yet.

After showing a teaser trailer at CinemaCon, Cameron said: “[We’re] pushing the limits even further with higher frame rates, higher resolution 3D and more realism in our visual effects.

“I want our return to Pandora to be something really special. Every shot is designed for the biggest screen, highest resolution and most immersive 3D available. I think we pulled it off.”

In addition to the complications of global sanctions in recent years, Cameron isn’t just working on Avatar: The Way of Water — he’s working on them all at once.

He told Vanity Fair in 2017: “It was very optimistic that we would be able to start quickly until the script was written. If there are no scripts, there is nothing, right?

“The script took four years. You can call it a delay, but it’s not really a delay because from the time we actually hit the button to make the movie [until now], we’ve been clicking perfectly.

Speaking to Empire in 2014, Cameron made a big claim for Avatar 2: “You’re not going to keep yourself open.”

The time before 2010 was different in movies. The Marvel Cinematic Universe launched just over a year ago with Iron Man , and in 2012, along with Angels & Demons (yes, really), and Ice Age 3 , the R-rated comedy was one of the highest-grossing films of the year.

To trot out cliches, Avatar took us to a whole new world; Namely, Pandora, with its hallelujah mountains and exotic animals, all through a 3D revamp. It dominated the box office with a 234-day run in theaters, and has become the highest-grossing film of all time, grossing $2.847 billion.

That was then, this is now. The cinematic landscape has evolved; Now more than ever, blockbusters are driven by IP and nostalgia, whether it’s Marvel and DC’s superhero output or Tom Cruise’s return to Top Gun. But fear not, because Avatar 2 is going to be absolutely huge for one reason: you’d never bet against James Cameron — so, here’s what we know about the sequel, from its release date to trailers, cast and plot details.

Avatar 2 Release Date: When Will Avatar The Way Of Water Release And Where Can I Watch It?

Fortunately, we have a release date for Avatar 2: The Way of Water finally set to hit theaters on December 16, 2022, nearly 13 years since the first film’s massive release.

It will only be available to watch on the big screen (preferably IMAX, if you can), so if you want to watch it at home you’re out of luck. However, if you are unable to make it to the cinema, it is likely that the film will be added to Disney+ after its theatrical run.

In addition to the Avatar 2 release date, we know that the third film is slated to release on December 20, 2024, followed by the fourth on December 18, 2026, and Avatar 5 on December 22, 2028.

Avatar 2’s runtime is confirmed to be three hours and 12 minutes (192 minutes), making it just shy of 30 minutes longer than the original and just two minutes shorter than Titanic, Cameron’s longest movie to date.

Cameron promised the sequel would be of epic length — and he doesn’t care if you need to pee. Speaking to Empire magazine, he said: “I don’t want someone to sit down and watch [television] for eight hours and whine about the length.

“I could almost write this part of the review. ‘Three hours of painfully long movie…’ It’s like, give me a f**king break. I’ve watched my kids sit through five one-hour episodes in a row.

“There’s a big social paradigm shift that’s going to happen: It’s okay to get up and pee.”

In another interview with Total Film, Cameron further discussed why the movie has such a long runtime – nearly 30 minutes longer than the original.

Avatar 3′ Release Date, Plot Details, Trailer

“The goal is to tell a highly compelling story on an emotional scale. I would say that the new film has more emphasis on character, more on story, more on relationships, more on emotion.

“We didn’t spend as much time on relationships and emotions in the first film as we do in the second film, and it’s a longer film, because there are more characters to serve. There is more story to the service.”

Several cast members from the original film are returning for Avatar 2, including Sam Worthington as Jack Sully and Zoe Saldana as Naytiri.

Stephen Lang also returns as Colonel Miles Quaritch, who is set to become the main villain of the upcoming films. Given his death in the first movie, it was unclear how he would return – however, the first trailer showed a buff Na’vi character with the same tattoo on his arm as Lang, and his transformation has since been confirmed.

Sigourney Weaver is also returning, but Dr. Instead of reprising her role as Grace Augustine, she’s playing an entirely new character: Kiri, Jake and Neytiri’s adopted Na’vi teenage daughter.

In an interview with Empire magazine, the Alien legend said: “I think we all remember very much what we felt as teenagers. I definitely do. When I was 11 I was 5’10” or 5’11”. . I strongly felt that Kiri would be awkward a lot of the time. She’s discovering who she is. I was thrilled to be challenged by Jim.”

Kate Winslet reunites with Cameron and will star as Ronal, part of the free-diving Na’vi.
