Out of the box, the Shark Genius consists of three parts – handle, body and head – that snap together in less than 10 seconds.

The first thing that catches the eye is the head of the Shark Genius, which opens like a book in three parts. Place the double-sided face cloth (there are two of them) on the floor, then point the four corners of the head into the pocket of the sheet. Alternatively, you can slide the cloth on yourself, but the cloth is easy enough to put your head on the cloth and slide your head on the cloth.
By pressing down, one part of the head is pushed into place, and by turning the cloth slightly, the second part snaps up. Shark calls this technology Never-Touch, and indeed, when you’re done washing, you place the head in the laundry basket and press a button, which unlocks the head and releases the laundry. The curtain glides smoothly on the floor and its curved head allows you to reach corners and floorboards.

Another feature we like is the Steam Blaster. For specific stains on the floor, you flip up the head of the mop, which exposes the nozzle, and when you press down, a burst of gas erupts. We tested using the Steam Blaster outside, painted the deck and watered the trees and the pollen evaporated instantly. The Shark Genius has a 22-foot power cord, so you can clean large areas without the need for an extension cord.
Our only complaint with the Shark Genius is that its refill tank is not removable. If you clean only a small area and do not use all the water in the tank, you should raise the curtain on the sink. The Shark Genius weighs less than 6 pounds, so it’s not difficult to carry, but it might be more convenient if it could be removed from the body.
Shark Genius – S5003D is more expensive than other similar vaporizers. But no other steam mop has Never-Touch and Steam Blaster technology, which we think is just the price.
After two weeks of testing (and moving around the device so we could find a new area to steam), we found the Bissell – 19404 PowerFresh just as easy to use as the Shark Genius. It gives us great results, making the floor brighter, shinier and cleaner feeling.

The Bissell has a built-in scrubber that slides down with your foot and adds an extra boost to the power of the steam. In our tests, it only took ten seconds to clean dry food, and the easy cleaning made a clear difference in high-traffic areas. This is definitely a paper towel cleanup. (Check out our paper towel review for the best.) You can actually see the mess happening when you clean up, with a noticeable difference in the areas that are just baking.
It comes with two microfiber pad options: a white microfiber pad for everyday use and a striped cleaning cover for tough messes. Both pads are treated with Microban anti-microbial protection and have a pocket to store the optional Spring Breeze pad. We find that the fresh smell of a steam clean floor is quite appealing, but if you’re a really smelly person, you can add a sheet or even Bissell Demineralized Water in scents like Citrus and Eucalyptus Mint.
Features such as easy fold-away cleaning and variable steam control make the Bissell PowerFresh the clear choice for most households.
Our favorite feature is the removable water tank. It is very convenient to take it out and put it in the faucet to refill it or throw away the extra water when we are done cleaning. However, to make sure there is no water in Bissel’s body, we need to hold him in the sink to drain him completely.

There are three digital settings (low, medium and high), so you can easily change the level of steam you want to use.
Overall, this mop is easy to use, extremely convenient for cleaning floors, and reasonably priced, making us recommend it as the best steam mop on the market.
The Sharper Image SI-160 2-in-1 Steamer is quite similar to other steam mops, except for one different feature: the main body can be separated from the extension pole and the mop head. With 4 attachments – a brush head, two stiff bristle brushes and a bronze paint brush – you can clean any hard-to-reach areas. The SI-160 is a little scary to put together with all the parts that come out of the box. But by following the manual carefully, we were able to put it all together in about 10 minutes.

There are also two microfiber cloths and a mat that attaches to the bottom of the mop head for cleaning carpets and rugs. The carpet plane is very efficient and certainly glides comfortably over the carpet. However, the slider reduces the size of the exposed cleaning head, which makes it better for spot cleaning; Otherwise, it will take an hour to clean an average-sized room.
The hull is separated from the mast and rigging to become a mobile steamer. With its brush and spray attachment, the SI-160 allows you to clean surfaces other than floors in hard-to-reach places.
The SI-160 has a unique water tank. It’s portable and has a rubber spout included so water can be added and emptied easily.
