Hardwood is great for some, but most of us are looking for a low-maintenance, low-concern, low-cost flooring. And that is Costco laminate hardwood, engineered hardwood, and vinyl!
Two weeks ago I came across some Harmonica laminate flooring that was on sale for $1.30 per square foot and I really liked it. They had two varieties that I liked, Mill Creek Maple and Camden Oak.
We could still sell online, but we didn’t want to pay extra for shipping. So we considered it, as our groceries froze in the water cart and the baby napped again and finally decided yes.
We bought all but 6 boxes of them at the store (1000 square feet). Hip-Hip for Costco getting a visa now! Hello air miles! Maybe after all is said and done, we’ll go to Hawaii.
How To Clean Laminate Floors
This is the Costco Floor Mohawk Home Clover Run fruit tree. A deluxe 5mm waterproof vinyl with a 1mm attached pad. If you love something with a more wooden look, this is for you!
This light and warm floor is Arowana Gold Bleached Sand from Costco Engineered Hardwood. It looks stunning with white cabinets and airy spaces. If your home is cold, these peach colored flooring will warm it up.
This is Costco Mohawk Home Glenview Hickory laminate flooring. It is 10mm thick with built-in SplashDefense technology and a 2mm pad.

Let’s Talk Main Living Area Flooring!
A big difference in appearance is matte vs. glossy. Not that I really tried to shine my floors to see my face in them, but this texture is easier on the eyes and random bits of dust/dirt/fur can blend in a bit better!
Carpet removal is relatively painless, assuming you use a dust mask to keep allergies under control. Because no matter how much you vacuum and clean your carpets, the dust and dirt of the hard core collects to the underlay. It’s so bad to see what’s piling up underneath! 🤢
That’s why we decided to make the entire downstairs hardwood. We’re terrible at taking off our shoes, we’re always running in and out with project materials and tools, and we have a dog. D I R T is pretty much spelled right?!
Most of the demo was done by yours truly. It kind of goes without saying in this house that Mr. G does all the detailing and OCD sawing, so I should be able to do all the show work! All I needed was a crowbar and pliers!

When we talk about it, my husband laughs out loud and says, “When we got home, I swore I wouldn’t do it. Now we’ve done the kitchen, the floors, and we’re doing the baseboards just like the last house. “At least we haven’t taken a bath.” …. I simply smile and nod.
The garage at this point is pretty much ready for the dump. Oh and don’t forget my little helper who has been great with all the banging, sawing and running around. (And Ps. I got a new light that makes me grunt every time I walk down the stairs 🙂
Saturday morning came and I loaded Mr. J with bacon, eggs, cinnamon rolls and lots of coffee and ibuprofen so he could go to town on the new floors.
Oh and don’t forget a handsome, hard working person that you love and appreciate more than words can say! (Also all the goods that keep him going: his favorite cookies, goldfish, pizza, beer, excedrine. You know..)

**Frequently asked questions about how floors hold up** I am concerned about water seepage in a crowded home, how has yours held up?
+ Our floors have been excellent. We’ve had a few baby water bottle spills/spills as well as full dog bowls (two beach towels worth) from spills and they cleaned up without a problem. With any floor that isn’t vinyl or tile, you need to clean up the water as soon as possible, but a water bottle leak within a few hours hasn’t caused us any problems.
+ These classes see a lot of action. I let shoes in the house, dogs run in the house, kids push anything they can slide in the house, and probably more than I should allow…so they are tested! We had no scratches. They have done great
+ I use a regular mop with a bucket/bowl/sink of warm water mixed with a few drops of Squirt and Mop Floor Cleaner. I walk behind the bathroom with a towel to dry it off as soon as I clean it. Another great cleaning tool is this dry cleaner with washable pads. Otherwise, I just like to vacuum once or twice a week.
