Furniture Outlets In North Carolina

Furniture Outlets In North Carolina – Last weekend we went to North Carolina to celebrate my grandmother’s 90th birthday. North Carolina is the manufacturing hub for many of America’s major furniture brands, including Broyhill, Hooker, Thomasville, and our favorite, Bernhardt. While we were there, I was excited to visit the outlet malls and furniture stores of High Point, North Carolina, which has been dubbed the Furniture Capital of the World.

Before visiting, I requested a packet of information from the High Point Visitors Bureau. The information package included a well-illustrated map and list of furniture dealers, brochures about other attractions in the area, and several advertisements. It wasn’t very useful for travel planning. Instead, I relied primarily on an article in USA Today from 2017 to guide my planning.

Our goal is to leverage the manufacturer’s outlets. We were looking for a good deal on well made furniture. After all, we have a great designer who knows our style and budget, and can choose a full range of furniture. So I made the most of the day I had set aside to shop for discounted furniture.

Since our favorite furniture maker (we discovered through our designer) is Bernhardt, we decided to visit their Hickory, North Carolina location first. Hickory was an hour and twenty minutes away from our final destination at the top, but in our minds it was worth the detour. We were impressed with the Bernhard dealership, but unfortunately we couldn’t find anything that suited our urgent needs. We felt that there was a good selection and quality of furniture.

Although it wasn’t in my original plan, we also visited Kincaid and Century Furniture stores because they are located next to the Bernhard outlet. Kincaid Outlet is very well done, but our style is not so good. Century outlet is a bit small and disorganized and we couldn’t find anything there.

Our last stop in Hickory was Hickory Furniture Brands. The furniture was huge. It’s so big that you get overwhelmed easily. The furniture brand has full-service furniture dealers and several retail outlets. We are mainly interested in outlets. We looked to shop at Michelle Gold + Bob Williams outlets and Heritage Furniture/Hook Factory outlets. The price is reasonable, there are reasonable options, but again, nothing is right. We also visited Hickory Park and Avant-Garde outlets, but the prices were still quite high (e.g. $3,000 consoles).

After lunch we trekked to the top. The most iconic store here is Furnitureland South. They claim to be the largest furniture store in the world, with over a million square feet across three huge buildings, and I believe them. Despite their great influence, we were disappointed. I highly recommend Southern Furniture to anyone looking for a good deal on furniture. Conversely, if you have a lot of money and want to work with their designer (who you just met and have never seen your home in), then this is the place for you.

There is a furniture store in the south, but it’s disappointing and very expensive. I found an ornate chair worth $8,000,000. Another frustrating thing about Furniture South is that you have to buy all the pieces from the same group. For example, if you only need one chair, but it’s grouped with other chairs and stools, you’ll need to buy all three pieces. Not only did it meet our needs, but it felt unconscionable, as most designers will tell you the number one design mistake most people make is buying furniture that fits you.

We left the furniture south exit with a bad taste in our mouths. We also visited the other two buildings, which have many beautiful, fully furnished rooms – some of which are very expensive. The designer who greeted us as we entered explained that on a scale of 1-10, they sold furniture ranging from 4-10. Each building has multiple floors of furniture-categorizing marts and showrooms, which group furniture by brand.

Although we were disappointed by the massively advertised Furniture South, we decided to visit some of the other outlets found in the High Point area. Based on the map I received, we decided to visit Furniture 411. The brochure shows that they specialize in market samples, and I read a blog online that supports this store. However, it was closed when we arrived. The brochure and website clearly show 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, but the store is not open. It was also easy to miss due to the poor signature.

We made two final stops at the top before throwing in the towel. We visited High Point Furniture Sales Clearance. It was very small and quite awkward. You have to go from an office space where people work at desks to a small warehouse space with limited furniture. We were able to see all the furniture in about five minutes. They encouraged us to visit their full-service store.

Finally, we stopped at Furniture in the main store. This is an extension of Furnitureland South, but at actual sale prices. There were some nice pieces at reasonable prices. At the back they also have a Salvage sign building. This is a scratch and dent shop with very steep prices.

All in all, the trip didn’t go well. I certainly won’t be visiting Furniture again, but if I lived closer I would stop by some of the outlets from time to time. If I had to do it over again, I would choose the furniture manufacturer’s outlets (like Theodore Alexander, Dynasty, and French Heritage) over the bigger stores. The individual outlets we visited had the best deals and selection.

If you can’t make the trip to North Carolina, check out local furniture stores. We’ve had pretty good luck with our nearby dealerships. I have a list and description of local furniture stores that I frequent in one of my previous posts.

I went to Ashley’s Outlet today to buy a chair. Robert and Kathy went above and beyond to get me everything I needed. I will definitely come back again.

Mr. Tony is amazing! He took the time to acknowledge my desire to be a client. He made sure I was approved and that the items I wanted to purchase were in my possession. As a salesperson she is an extraordinary asset to Ashley Furniture!!

Miss Teri Hart needs a RAISE!!!! He was very helpful and willing to help me and my friend with anything we needed. Even though we were just window shopping, it was nice to know there was a companion every step of the way. I will come back again when I’m ready to buy & when I come back I just want to work with him. Thank you for a great shopping experience.

Robert helped my wife find the right restaurant while it was so nice and enjoyable to eat together. He gave us time before narrowing down our final options without rushing and paying the best price. Ask for Robert when you visit! Ashley is committed to your trustworthiness
