How Long Should Bootcut Jeans Be – Greetings, friends! Yesterday I posted about what jeans are in style for 2021, and today we’re taking a deeper look at how to style bootcut jeans this fall. Straight, relaxed full-length bootcut jeans are making a comeback, and I recently added this pair of high-waisted ripped bootcut jeans to my closet. I really like this silhouette!
These are not the bootcut jeans of the early 90s – low and fitted through the hips and thighs. As much as I loved those back then, this pair looks more modern and fresh to my eyes with the high rise and relaxed fit. They have a 30 1/2″ inseam, so they need a bit of a heel or seam, but I like the longer length with the relaxed fit because it’s slimmer.

Also notice how they are not as much as we used to wear them before. It used to be that bootcut jeans should end 1/2″ from the floor, with shoes on, and that’s still fine. But you definitely don’t want to see them touching or crawling on the floor, and I actually think an inch or two off the floor looks a little more modern. I haven’t measured it but I’d say these are somewhere in that range.
The Right Jeans For Your Butt And Body Type
These are very subtle differences, I realize, but as they say, the devil is in the details! Okay, maybe that’s not the right expression, but you get the point.
One of the best things about full-length bootcut jeans is that it opens up a whole world of shoe options. Almost any bootie works with these jeans because you don’t have to worry about the height or width of the shaft interfering with the hem of the jeans.
These are the Marc Fisher Gadri boots from the Nordstrom sale, but they’re back to full price for now. DSW has a very similar pair for less than $100, and I’m sure there are other alternatives out there.
I prefer a bit of a heel with bootcut jeans, but it depends on your body type. If you have long legs, you can probably get away with a lower heel. You can also play with the length of your top — a shorter top generally looks better when wearing a low heel because it elongates the leg line.

In this case, I’m not wearing a particularly short top, but it’s not long and baggy either. This wool vest (unfortunately low inventory) is approximately 24″ long. It is also slightly fitted, which raises the figure and helps to remove the extra volume in the jeans.
I also style these jeans with a t-shirt and a utility jacket. Because they have such a high waist, I made the shirt front but puffed it up a bit at the waist. Adding the jacket on top helps keep the overall proportions in check.
These boots also have a 3″ heel, but with an additional 1″ platform, so the jeans are definitely 2 inches off the ground. I like how the front hem of the jeans barely touches the top of the pocket.
And then I played with these jeans in my bedroom a few weeks ago. See how they look with a fashionable sneaker. I don’t like the way the jeans buckle on the front shoe, but they’re okay from the back – they’re not dragging on the floor or anything. It’s definitely a sloppier look than with boots, but it can work for a casual outfit.

And this is a bootie with a 2 1/2″ heel. They definitely work with these, so they will probably work with a 1″ or 1 1/2″ heel just fine. This 30 1/2″ seam is pretty versatile!
It will be interesting to see how this trend plays out as we head into the fall season. I’m still seeing a lot of straight tops on the websites (see how to style crop flares for fall) but I think we can start to see the return of longer jeans when the cold weather arrives.
What do you say? Are you on board with this trend, or are you going to put this one out?

Everyone wants to know what jeans are in style for Autumn 2021, and whether they will have to miss out on their beloved skinny jeans. Now that I’ve had a chance to play with more styles, here’s my take on the situation! Before we go, allow me to make my standard disclaimer…

Well, we’re already halfway through another month, and that’s great! In just a few days, we pack up two cars and head to the east coast to drop off her daughter at college for the first time. I’m not going to ramble on about all the thoughts and feelings that go around in my head and heart, but it’s been a week, let’s put it that way.
I know I said I would focus on fall fashion this month, but we took these pictures last month, and this top sold out before I could post them. Now that the Annual Sale is over, guess what’s back and fully stocked? You guessed it! Pants, it seems, came in one or two general styles. Now whether you are looking for dress pants or denim, you are faced with a sea of options.
With all those options it’s hard enough to find a pair of pants that match. But then you are hit with the dilemma of which shoe to go with them. Check out these tips on what style of shoe to wear with what pants.
It’s not just denim that comes in “skinny” anymore. Dress pants now come in skinny styles too. Whether you’re buying denim pants or a dress, the fit will be snug, similar to a legging. They should fit right next to your body and at first, they may even feel a little uncomfortable. These styles of pants usually have a lot of stretch to them. When that band warms up to your body temperature, it releases a bit and gives you a comfortable and flexible fit. The biggest mistake women make is buying a pair that fits comfortably when they put them on for the first time. When they warm up and release, you’re left with a pair of saggy skinnies, which aren’t cute or flattering.

Buy skinnies that are as long as possible, preferably up to the tops of your feet as your legs will look as long as your pants.
The most common choice of footwear for skinny pants is a boot or bootie because the tight fit allows you to wear a boot over them comfortably. I have found, however, that there really isn’t a shoe style that doesn’t work with the skinny. As long as you are choosing a shoe that is flattering to your feet and to your outfit, rock it.
Don’t tuck your straight leg jeans into your booties, roll them up 1″ above your shoe
Straight leg pants are usually the choice for those who want a slim cut but don’t want to go all the way skinny. The straight leg should skim your body and slightly hug your tush.

The sole of the straight leg should hit the top of your foot. An inch or two of extra fabric is not bad but anything more than that and you risk your pants looking frumpy and ill fitting. The point of the straight leg is to thin and elongated your leg so you want that line to go as long as you can without gathering in a touch of fabric around the ankles.
If you’re a fan of flats then this is the style of pants that best suits your look. The slim cut of the pants will not overpower a simple pair of ballet flats or d’orsay pointy toe. I love the elegance of a heel with a straight leg pant too. Your legs can look a million miles long if you have the right fit.
Be careful not to match your straight leg pants with a tall boot or an ankle bootie with an opening circumference that is wider than your ankle. In this case the opening of the trousers is usually equal to the opening of the hem of the trousers so fitting your jeans to a bootie will look messy and your hem is not wide enough
