What Furniture Goes In A Dining Room – When designing our dining room, we wanted to go for a modern contemporary style with clean simple accents. When browsing for furniture, we focused on minimalist dining furniture that wasn’t bulky and didn’t visually take up too much space. Although our dining table is quite large and can seat 8-10 people, it doesn’t overwhelm the space and still feels open and airy.
One of our favorite pieces of furniture in our home is this walnut portica dining table with stainless steel base from Room and Board. We wanted our dining table to seat as many people as possible since we often host, and chose one that seats 8-10. For reference, our table dimensions are 78″ W x 42″ D x 29″ H. The walnut wood top is stunning, but also requires a bit more maintenance and good care to keep it looking its best. We also considered. Since we got the dining table from Room and Board, we chose their Hirsch chairs in ivory with metal legs. These chairs have a very sleek and thin frame and are a huge space saver, especially when trying to cram as many people around the table as possible! We really like the material, which is super easy to clean and very durable against spills. Another option we considered was a low leather chair from Crate and Barrel.
How To Choose The Right Dining Table For Your Home
The main level of our townhouse is the second floor, which is open concept. Since the dining area is open to the living room, we decided not to use a rug for the dining room because the rug would be a little too close to the living room rug. It was also a practical decision and would be easy to clean under the dining table.
For the dining room decor, we went with a simple circular wall-hung mirror centered around the table. We absolutely love and recommend the Infinity Mirror line from CB2! We have a 48 inch infinity round mirror in black and it perfectly anchors our modern dining room. It is available in 24, 36 and 48 inches and has an ultra-slim aluminum frame with a depth of 1 inch. Our dining chandelier is definitely a statement piece and enhances the entire look of the space! Our particular fixture is no longer available but this Cluster Pendant Chandelier from Wayfair is a great option!
For our dining table centerpiece, we have a white 32 inch tall planter, filled with faux succulents. It also comes in black and stainless steel in various lengths. We used floral foam to hold the succulents in place and topped it off with white accent rocks for a finished look.

If you have dining chairs with arms, the arms should easily fit under the dining table when pushing the chairs. This will ensure that your guests can rest their hands comfortably
Ideas For Styling Acrylic Dining Chairs
Dining room rugs should be large enough to rest under the legs of all chairs when the chairs are occupied or pulled up. You don’t want guests to be partially on the rug while sitting in their chairs. A good rule of thumb is to allow at least 3 feet between the edge of your dining table and the edge of your rug.
Go for a thin, easy-to-clean rug in the dining room. Stay away from thick or shaggy rugs that can hide anything that falls off the table.
Pay attention to the proportions. Your dining chairs should be proportional to your dining table. Nothing too big or too small. Your dining room chandelier should not be more than half the width of your dining table. The bigger the table, the bigger the light fixture!
Dining room art should never be larger than the dining room table. We all know why we’re in this room, so don’t distract from the main attraction with large-scale artwork on the wall!
