Our studios are located in downtown Florence at Connie D. Located in the McKinney Center. The historic cotton warehouse, built in 1917, was renovated in 2016 to house some of the company’s creative specialties. Facilities available to IAD students include a 24-seat drawing studio equipped with drafting tables and dual-monitor computers, 20-seat CAD technology. a laboratory, a resource library with industrial products and samples, and a printing house. The McKinney Center also has other lecture halls, a gallery, a demonstration kitchen, a student lounge, and other and creative spaces.
Our program places great emphasis on studio culture. We believe that an open, collaborative studio atmosphere best prepares students to enter the industry. They are encouraged to spend time studying outside of class meetings. Students have secure access to the McKinney Center at night and on weekends with the Mane Card.
As a creative and technical major, interior architecture and design students need a variety of resources. Entry-level IAD courses require several separate materials and are used in the IAD curriculum.
Although interior architecture and design students often design by hand, most coursework is designed digitally. Students can access the McKinney Center after hours and on weekends, but many prefer to work from home if needed. We currently offer PC laptops, but MacBooks are welcome.
