Where Can I Watch Home Improvement For Free – Who else grew up watching HGTV shows as a family? Seeing a home improvement project always inspires me to create or style something. A few years ago, after watching an episode of Fixer Upper, I searched online for used sectionals and found our leather sectional for $350! Before that I was a bit of an Eeyore about our living room. The couch we had was too small for the space, but the cheapest new sectionals at IKEA were over $1,000.
My husband and I do not have cable. Instead, we pay for Netflix and Amazon Prime, and we use a digital antenna for local new channels. Since I’m still craving a good home improvement or craft show on TV, and HGTV shows aren’t on Netflix, over the past year I’ve discovered some great shows on Netflix for home improvement and design inspiration!

Why You Should Have A Tv Antenna, Even If You Subscribe To Cable
The Great Interior Design Challenge is a fun design show held in the UK. The contestants are amateur designers of all ages, and their styles vary greatly from contemporary to cottage chic. The participants redesign rooms on a small budget with the customer in mind and mix in upcycle projects and crafting/sewing along the way. After watching this show, I always feel inspired with new decorating ideas. As of early 2019, two seasons are available to watch on Netflix.
Released in 2018 on Netflix, Stay Here is hosted by designer Genevieve Gorder and real estate expert Peter Lorimer. In each of the 8 episodes, they focus on unique short-term rentals (in one episode they give a houseboat a makeover and in another they improve a historic firehouse) and improve the style of each rental. While these transformations aren’t DIY, I enjoyed seeing the colors and textures they chose in each room. The show also focuses on the marketing side of running a small business. Overall, the show was an enjoyable watch with beautiful views, design trends and some marketing advice.
Many of you are already watching Marie Kondo’s new show Tidying Up on Neflix (lots of “sparkly joy” memes going around the web!) I love the show for her kind, calm personality and the series of families she has in each episode. Some families are borderline hoarders and others just need more organizational support. I can’t watch an episode without jumping out of my seat afterwards and cleaning out a closet. It honestly helped motivate me to organize our kitchen cupboard.
This 4-episode show focuses on the architecture and construction of 8 unique cottages in Wales as part of a design competition. Cabin design is inspired by mythologies and traditions from caves to dragons and mines. I watched the show with our 11 year old to inspire his interest and designs. I appreciate that the competition includes design constraints (must fit a truck and stay on budget) and it shows how architects and craftsmen creatively work around the constraints.
Happy To Be Home With The Benkos Show
From houseboats to RVs and converted industrial structures, this show provides creative examples of living creatively without a mortgage. I didn’t enjoy the show as much as the other 4 shared above, but it’s worth watching, especially for frugal design ideas that go against cultural norms that bigger and more expensive are better.
The House Doctor collection on Netflix includes episodes from 2016. The show was filmed in the UK with American designer Tracy Metro. She helps struggling homeowners looking to sell improve a few rooms in their home on a budget. I don’t love every makeover, but there were several good ones, including episode 11 where she painted a thick floor-to-ceiling green stripe with new lighting.

INDIANAPOLIS — Because of the pandemic, many of us are spending more time at home. If you’re looking to make some changes but don’t think you can afford a major remodeling project, Cherie Lowe, the Queen of Free, shared her advice Sunday on 13Sunrise.
Cherie said there are ways to spruce up your space without spending a fortune by switching things up.

“One of the biggest improvements you can make doesn’t involve adding anything new to your home, but subtracting,” Cherie said in her weekly blog. “Spend some time de-cluttering your home.”
Choose one project at a time to make the overall task less daunting. Maybe choose one task for each day for a month. Start with a list and tackle one drawer, one shelf or one cupboard at a time.
Before adding a new item, you need to make room for it. Move furniture to another room and take down tapestries.
“Clearing your space gives you the opportunity to take a visual inventory before you begin your work,” said Cherie.

Once you’ve cleaned up the mess, head to the store for the fun part – new stuff. You may see some seasonal items online, but the best deals will usually be in store.
Cherie likes to use YouTube to guide both purchasing decisions and DIY hacks. You can find repair and maintenance tips, as well as design projects in videos posted by people like you.
Don’t make changes to your home unless you can make your life easier. Think through your daily routine and ask what small, simple improvements you can make to save yourself a few steps or some time.
Go room to room with your roommate or spouse to help you decide what needs to be fixed or changed. Use sticky notes for each project and put them all on a large board to decide which projects need priority. When you can afford it, start knocking them out one by one.
Home Improvement Projects That Add Value (and 3 That Don’t)
Right now, the Indianapolis Home Show is full of ideas. Cherie will be speaking every Sunday through January 30th in the West Pavilion if you want more ideas. You can get your tickets for $11 when you use the code QUEEN. Or they cost $15 at the door. After the show is over, there’s always the internet for ideas and inspiration for projects you can start.
