To make a frozen tuna steak, thaw the steak overnight in the refrigerator in its original package. If you’re short on time, microwave it on defrost in 5 minute intervals until it’s thawed enough to handle. Once the steak is thawed, place it on a plate and top with 2 tablespoons (30 mL) soy sauce, 1 tablespoon (15 mL) olive oil, and salt and pepper to taste. Place the steak in a sealed plastic bag or container and leave it to marinate for at least 10 minutes, preferably several hours. Heat 1 tablespoon (15 mL) olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, then add the steak to the pan. Sear the steak for about 2 ½ minutes on each side, then remove from the heat. How to cook tuna steak? If you ask most chefs, tuna in the deep fryer (or cooked in other ways) should be pink in the middle. It’s probably rare or medium rare (although using the color of the fish isn’t the best way to check for doneness).
For food safety, the FDA recommends cooking tuna and other fish to a minimum safe temperature of 145F (63C). This cooking temperature will give you medium to medium well done fish. The fish can be light gray to light pink in color, similar to canned tuna.

How to cook ahi tuna? I’ll give you the air fry times for both ways and leave it up to you.
Ahi tuna is the Hawaiian name for yellow and bigeye tuna. Bigeye tuna is preferred for sashimi sushi. This fish is similar in quality to bluefin tuna, but less expensive.
To prepare the sauce, you need 3 tablespoons of flavored mayonnaise (chipotle or sriracha) and 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame oil.
The thickness and weight of your tuna steaks can dramatically change the cooking time. You will need to adjust the cooking time for smaller or larger steaks.
Emc Yellowfin Tuna Steaks
I cook tuna steaks in a 10-quart Caloric Digital Air Fryer Oven. However, you can cook Ninja Foodi tuna steaks or use another fryer instead. This includes Philips, Nuwave, Pampered Chef, Actifry, Instant Pot Vortex, Cosori, Breville, and more.
Keep in mind that cooking times are not as consistent between fryer brands as they are with ovens. Depending on your fryer, you may need to adjust the cooking time. When trying any new deep fryer recipe, always check the food ahead of time so you don’t overcook anything.
Another piece of kitchen equipment I recommend for cooking tuna steaks is a meat thermometer. This is the best way to check the doneness of the fish.
Raw tuna is sometimes used in sushi, but may carry a higher risk of foodborne illness than cooked tuna. If you want to undercook the tuna for this recipe, I recommend using a high-quality sushi-grade tuna steak. People who are immunocompromised or in other high-risk groups should not eat raw fish.

Fryer tuna steaks do not need to be marinated! The sesame coating in this recipe provides a protective layer that keeps the fish from drying out. If you prefer to marinate instead of tuna, here are some ideas:

How long should I grill tuna steak? What is the temperature of the tuna steak air fryer? Fry the fresh tuna steaks in a preheated 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190C) fryer for a total of 8-12 minutes.

Grilled Ahi Tuna Steak With Soy Dipping Sauce
Some sources recommend cooking tuna steaks to 115F (46C), but I found this too raw for my taste. The recommended minimum safe internal temperature for a tuna steak is 145F (63C), which is medium to medium.
Leftover tuna steak will keep in the refrigerator in a sealed food-safe container for up to 1-2 days. It’s easy to overcook tuna steaks with reheating, so I recommend avoiding that if possible. Try to only cook what you will eat so you don’t have to freeze or refrigerate leftovers.
If you need to reheat the ahi, you can try microwaving it on high for 30 seconds without the sauce.
Use leftover tuna steaks in sushi, wraps, or poke-style tuna dishes. You can also put it on top of a salad for a protein boost.
Seared Tuna Steak
One serving of deep-fried tuna steak has 444 calories, 1 gram of net carbs and 29.6 grams of protein. That’s per 4-ounce serving (113 grams) and includes sauce.
This is a Level 3 prescription (weight maintenance and active lifestyle). Tuna steaks are a lean protein, but the mayonnaise and sesame oil-based sauce adds 200 calories per serving. To make low-calorie tuna steaks, just skip the sauce.
Now for the bad news: ahi (both yelloweye and bigeye) are a problem fish. This means that if you are looking for a sustainable seafood option, they are not optimal.
Also, yellowfin is a high mercury fish and big eye is the highest mercury fish. It is recommended to limit the consumption of yellowfin to 3 times a month or less. Because bigeye is one of the highest mercury fish, some sources recommend avoiding it altogether.

Pregnant women, nursing women and children should take special care to avoid fish with the highest mercury content. Fortunately, there are plenty of low-mercury seafood to choose from. If you make these low-mercury fish your mainstay, you can still include plenty of seafood in your diet.
Yes, you can fry both types of ahi (yellowfin tuna and bigeye) with this recipe. Make sure the fillets you use are about 4 ounces (113 grams) and 1 inch (2.54 cm) thick. If they are a different size, you may need to adjust the cooking time.
Instead of making sesame-crusted ahi, you can experiment with deep-fryer blackened tuna steaks with Cajun seasoning. Other good seasonings for tuna steaks include everything pretzel seasoning, lemon pepper, and Old Bay.
Yes, there is always the risk of undercooking meat and seafood. FDA cooking temperature guidelines exist for a reason! The risk of food poisoning from undercooked ahi may be small. However, if you are immunocompromised, pregnant, or in another high-risk group, I recommend cooking your tuna steak thoroughly.
