How To Deep Clean Your Car’s Interior, According To Experts
To clean your car, start by filling one bucket with water and a second bucket with water and car soap. Then, spray your car with a hose to remove any loose dirt and grime. Next, dip a sponge in soapy water and wash your car’s windshield using an up-and-down motion. Work from the top of your car down, but make sure to rinse the sponge out of the bucket of clean water every once in a while so it doesn’t get dirty. When you finish cleaning a part, rinse your car with a hose so the soap doesn’t dry out. Once you have cleaned the entire exterior, dry it with a soft terry towel to prevent streaks and water marks. Finally, if the interior of your vehicle is dirty, use a vacuum to clean the seats, dashboard, and comforters. Then, clean all surfaces with car wipes or ammonia-free, cleaning all surfaces. Home asked Christian Newman, professional auto detailer and owner of C&J Automotive Detailing in Slidell, Louisiana, how to clean like a pro. He has some great tips for keeping vehicles looking new, no matter what you put them on.
Newman suggests going through the steps below about once a month, or as needed. If you have school pickups, cars and sports activities on the horizon, you may want to step that up to twice a month.
There are many different tools that you will need to clean a car, not every vehicle will need to have the same issues that are addressed. However, this list should serve as a good starting point:

Vacuum carpets, floor mats and furniture; use an attachment to remove cup holders and other parts. A petrock can be helpful when it comes to removing unwanted hair and hair from carpeted or raised areas.
Newman then recommends moving on to the door panels because they are “one of the first parts of a car you see when you get in.” These hinges, nuts and bolts, which keep the door in place, may seem inconsequential, but they deserve to be cleaned all the same!
Use a microfiber cloth that has been soaked in a diluted mixture of all purpose auto cleaner. Use one section of the cloth at a time, and wipe the entire jamb – around the edges, under the door, around the hinges and where the door meets the body of the car. To prevent the spread of mold and mildew, pay attention to areas that can hold moisture.
Follow up by erasing all hard vinyl areas. Use another clean microfiber cloth, dampened again in an all-purpose cleaning solution. These areas include the dashboard, instrument panel, compartments, door handles, vinyl on the doors, seat belt connectors, glove box, side panels in the doors, switch and steering wheel.

To clean the crevice between the steering wheel and steering column, gently rub a damp microfiber cloth between the two parts and work to remove dust and dirt. Rinse the cloth in clean water when dirty and rinse again with cleaning solution. Use a dry, round 1-inch brush to clean crevices that microfiber can’t reach.
Follow up by using a protective coating to coat the hard vinyl surfaces. Dampen another microfiber cloth with a satin-finish vinyl coating (like Car Brite Special Protect All or ArmorAll). This allows you to control where the product goes. Remove all hard vinyl surfaces but avoid the steering wheel as it makes the wheel too soft to grip.
Spray the cup holders with a solution of your choice, and use a brush to melt inside. Finish by wiping the cup holder with a damp microfiber cloth.
Keeping your windows and mirrors clean is about more than just aesthetics; it is also a safety issue! To make sure the glass stays clear, use a microfiber cloth specifically for glass. Wring the cloth and spray the window with an automatic degreaser (yes, it’s different from Windex!).

Pro Tip: To avoid streaks on the glass, wipe the window on the outside as you clean, then polish with a dry cleaning cloth, rubbing in a vertical direction. If it’s convenient, you can use one cloth for cleaning and another for polishing!
You’ll want to check what material your furniture is made of – the most common options are leather, vinyl or fabric.
“Skin is skin and, like our skin, it needs stimulation; so use cream-based cleansers,” advises Newman. “Do not use water or water-based products on leather. These can cause the skin to split, peel and dry.”
Upholstery can be spot-cleaned using a solution of Tide Plus Bleach Alternative and water. (Just apply a splash of the solution; enough to make soapy water.) Dip a microfiber cloth in the solution, wash it out and wipe the area. For stubborn spots, work the stain lightly using a scrub brush and a little soapy solution. Vacuum away the cleaning solution using a wet/dry vacuum. To rinse, spray area with clean water then rinse immediately with cool/dry water. Allow to dry before using the car.

Remove the floor mats from the car and wash them with a soapy solution, using a brush to clean difficult areas. Rinse and allow to dry before replacing in the car.
While the floor mats are removed, spot clean the car carpet as needed with an automatic carpet cleaner. If your carpet needs to be deep cleaned, you’re out of luck – it’s recommended that you leave the deep cleaning to the professionals.
“Thoroughly clean the carpet once a year but have a pro do it,” says Newman. “Many times, DIYers over-wet the carpet, wet the pad and end up with mold and mildew problems.”
It will take some time and effort, but once you’re done, your car will be as shiny as it just came home from the dealership! feel good about, you don’t need to take it to a professional for details. With the right tools and techniques,

The first thing you’ll want to do, of course, is land on a big, clear mess. Clean the interior and carpets thoroughly with a crevice tool that can get under the seats, around the seat mounting brackets, and inside the interior footwells as well. Move the seats forward, then all the way back, and vacuum under the areas (and be ready for anything you might find).
Treat the carpet floor with a good quality foam carpet shampoo. Next, use your scrubbing brush to make sure the shampoo is well worked into the carpeting, eliminating any stains you can see. After that, take a microfiber cloth and wipe it inside the carpeting as you open the door. Remember to change the cloth often and work with the clean part of the cloth.
