Slim Fit Jeans With Cowboy Boots

Both cowboy boots and jeans have evolved to include a wide array of cuts, designs, washes and colors. From dress boots to work boots, straight leg jeans to boot cut, there’s plenty to choose from. But finding the right combination of cowboy boots and jeans is as easy as understanding a few style rules and tapping into your own personal preferences.

How do you wear cowboy boots with jeans? As a general rule, we recommend wearing medium-dark jeans over your boots (not tucked in). The jeans should be quite shapely in the upper legs but have enough space in the lower leg to accommodate the boot, without showing a draft. In the sections below, we’ll talk about how to find the right length, cut, and color.

, it is important to find the right fit. The jeans should be long enough to protect your legs and cover the shaft of the boots, but not so long that they drag in the back or get stuck under your heel. Ideally, they should rest just above the heel of your cowboy boots by a quarter to a half inch. If you want to wear shorter jeans to show off your shoes, have the hem rest just above the foot of your cowboy boots.

When talking about how to wear cowboy boots with jeans, you can’t overlook the cut. The best trouser cuts to wear with your cowboy boots are:

Jean cuts narrower than a straight leg probably won’t fit over your cowboy boots, meaning you’ll have to tuck them in (not advised unless you’re doing some heavy work).

Nowadays, people wear almost every color of denim with their cowboy boots. But in general, the best color for a modern look is dark blue or charcoal wash. Medium blue jeans are perfect for day wear, and darker washes are great for nights out. Skinny jeans with cowboy boots have mostly gone out of style, but if you want to recreate a retro look, they could be the piece that pulls it all together. Ultimately, your choice of how to wear cowboy boots and jeans comes down to personal preference, but with this little knowledge of proper length, cut, and recommended colors, you’ll have an even better starting point. After living in Nashville for 10 years I definitely got tired of seeing them. And even though I’ve been gone for over 10 years now, traditional cowboy boots and my slight aversion to them aren’t out of my system – so I settle down to wearing cowboy boots on a regular basis (but not just any old one). cowboy boots).

Last year, I ordered this pair of cute, shorter cowboy boots from Matisse and played around with them a few times, but I never wore them much until recently. After a while, these boots were just what I needed. They felt

And since they’re so heavy in my rotation, here are three ways I style cowboy boots with jeans right now…

Wrangler Men’s Premium Performance Cowboy Cut Jean Prewashed Big & Tall Plus

This was the jeans + boots combo that inspired this article. I did a whole review on these jeans here if you’re interested, but it turns out the Mother Tomcats work great with shorter cowboy boots! I do a sort of half-tuck of them (they’re cropped, slim leg) and it works so well.

I could never pull off the tuck-jeans-in-regular-boots look. Taller people can rock that, but at this rate, it just didn’t do me any justice and made me feel woozy. This combination, however, I love! It’s something new and different and makes me have fun with my clothes now.

I do think it works most perfectly on me when the jeans and boots are a similar value (ie both lighter or both darker.) And I also prefer the look with my t-shirt. And don’t worry

Much about the jankoto is perfect here. I just tuck one side of the jeans into the boot and leave the other side out over it.

More to come on this rag and bone Slade blazer, too…but I’ve wanted to try it forever and it’s SO good. Just a size up (I needed to go with an 8) and a size up one size on the Mother jeans, too. Carrying 29.

This next outfit is just an easy combo here with no tucking in AND it’s pretty elongating too. These Moussy jeans are one of my absolute favorites because the brand really nails that vintage wash.

I love that these are wide leg (but not too wide) so they lay nicely over the cowboy boots. Plus, they also have the perfect distress, which I love. They feel especially cool paired with my new favorite quilted BlankNYC jacket. I bought it locally and they only had an M, but I could probably stick with my typical S. It’s SO soft and I grab it all the time.

You’ve seen these AGOLDE jeans** a lot (like in my full review here) and I still love them. They are also wider straight leg and I cropped this particular pair

That’s what I love about having a perfectly cut pair of jeans – they’re so good to wear with my high tops and higher shaft boots. They show just the right amount of upper of the shoe in this length.

I like this look with my Anine Bing Paris sweatshirt in an even more tucked-in situation (shooting in the wild is always precarious, friends haha) or with a slightly cropped top or jacket. This combo would also be nice with a longer jacket…I love playing with the short/long combo when putting together looks.

I LOVE my Matisse cowboy boots and they are super comfy, but I just came across some other adorable pairs as well. So I threw in some of my favorite shorter cowboy boots to kick us off here (heh.) I ordered the lightweight Dolce Vita boots to try on later. I also have the Free People pair in snake print from a few years ago, but now love some of their solid shades.

Thank you fun cowboy boots for pulling me out of my fashion rut this year and for being comfortable yet cool.

Our favorite stores and the internet are flooded with different types of men’s jeans, but it can be difficult to figure out which jeans, and which sizes, work best for us.

There are a few different ways you can determine which size jeans will work best for you. You can choose your regular inseam (or length) size or you can choose to stack your jeans.

Stacking jeans means wearing a longer inseam size than your true, measured size. For example, my measured size is 32×34 and when I stack jeans I choose size 32×36.

Stacking jeans was done historically so that jeans would not ride up when in the saddle, sitting or kneeling.

Usually, I like to wear my true size for bootcut jeans and my stack size for cowboy cut or straight leg jeans but it depends on the brand.

Now that you have a good idea of what size might work best for you and
