Carlyle Weinberger founded Ashley Furniture in Chicago in 1945 as a sales organization. Ashley specialized in wooden occasional furniture and marketed goods made by local businesses. Later, the company opened a branch in Gosh, Indiana. In 1970, Ashley invested in Wisconsin-based Arcadia Furniture, founded by Thomas Brosseau.
