At the beginning of every holiday season, I make a cup of hot cocoa and watch one of those “Home Alone” movies.

To me, the Christmas season means endless holiday movies, and the universally beloved “Home Alone” franchise.

The Huge Geography Problems You Never Noticed In ‘home Alone 2: Lost In New York’

The series consists of five films created by John Hughes and directed by famous directors such as Chris Columbus.

Each movie has all the essentials of a winter movie: the holiday season, great characters, funny villains, amazing camerawork, and a plot full of twists and turns.

“Home Alone 2: Lost In New York” has become my favorite since I lived in the city where the movie was filmed.

“Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” follows the John Hughes-Chris Columbus collaboration of the first “Home Alone” film, which took place in a Chicago suburb.

Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin in “Home Alone 2,” is going on vacation with his family. After a series of mistakes, McCallister ends up on the wrong plane – flying to New York City instead of Miami, where the rest of the family is headed.

Once landed in New York, McCallister explores the city alone and eventually runs into Harry and Marv, the same villains from the first film, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.

The movie was released in 1992. Nearly 30 years later, many of the scenes resemble New York City today.

When I lived in New York City, I enjoyed re-enacting scenes and visiting some of the real-life locations from the movie.

“Home Alone 2” is filled with many famous – and not so famous – New York destinations.

I watched this year’s classic Christmas movie to see how the movie captures today’s reality.

The opening plot in “Home Alone 2” involves Kevin McCallister landing in an unfamiliar airport with spectacular views of New York.

After mistaking a man in a tan jacket for his father, McCallister arrives in New York City with the entire cityscape behind him.

Feeling defeated at first, McCallister quickly realized that a solo trip to New York City could be an exciting adventure.

Let’s just say I haven’t seen sights like this at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York.

Maybe it’s because I’m always in a rush to get to the airport on time, but the views from the Lagadia windows have never failed to impress me the way they did in the movie.

As the holiday season is a very busy time for airlines and airports, McCluster is never in a rush to walk leisurely through the airport in search of a bench.

After the shock and stress that ensued, McCallister decided to make the most of his stay in New York City.

Luckily, he has his father’s handbag full of his father’s credit cards, cash and a Polaroid camera.

Ed Koch’s Queensboro Bridge is similarly the starting point or end of any of my adventures in New York, and it doesn’t seem to have changed much since 1992.

In the film, McCallister is now riding in an outdated taxi. According to the Internet Movies Database, McCallister’s 2010 It’s in a 1974 checkered taxi cab. Many taxis today are modern cars, although they still retain their iconic yellow color.

When it comes to Ed Koch’s Queensboro Bridge, however, today it looks almost identical to the 1992 film. The only difference I saw In 2010, “Ed Koch” was added to the front of the bridge after former mayor Edward I. Koch, according to The New York Times.

Once in Manhattan, McCallister makes a grand tour. Two quick shots show them geographically spread across the city. The first destination is Radio City Music Hall.

These scenes go by quickly as McCallister visits the many neighborhoods and fantastic locations sprinkled throughout the island.

While the exterior of the music hall hasn’t changed much since the movie, many of the people I used to see flocking to the destination are gone.

The movie takes place during the holiday season, so I was surprised that there weren’t many people in this scene, a neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan that is normally bustling with tourist activity.

Come summer, the Radio City Music Hall is especially crowded with people eager to see the Rockettes perform. The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan played a major role in the movie, so it offers a package that allows guests to stay. In 1992, he played in Macaulay Culkin’s film as Kevin McAllister.

Tim Curry wouldn’t be welcome as an aide, and Donald Trump would be too busy to give you directions to the lobby. But the Plaza is having fun on its website, including a 1990s “inspired menu” at Todd English’s food hall, along with older versions of childhood favorites.

Included in the package are an interactive photo booth experience, a commemorative limited-edition set of five “Home Alone” DVDs, a 25th anniversary tote bag and an in-room helping of an “over the top” ice cream sundae, similar to the one Kevin ate in the movie.

Additional options include express passes to the Empire State Building’s 86th floor main observatory, a four-hour limousine tour of New York, access to Wolman Rink, and a personal photographer to capture the highlights of the trip.

The package will be available for registration till October 29, 2018. Guests can book hotel stays anytime between now and November 1, 2018.
