Wallpaper On Interior Design Masters – . We head to Manchester to see how the contestants tackle renting flats for 20-30-somethings in a fancy new block of flats built there.

I first interviewed Matthew in 2007 for ELLE Decoration. He was about to have a major retrospective at London’s Design Museum to celebrate a decade of sartorial success. By then he was firmly established in the highest echelons of celebrity-admired fashion – think Kate Moss, Jade Jagger and Sienna Miller regularly modeled for him. His 10th anniversary London Fashion Week show even included a surprise performance from Prince! Definitely a ‘moment’. And I was actually there!

But since then there have been many more brilliant moments for Matthew, not the least of which is that he’s completely transitioned from fashion to lingerie…

In June 2003, the Matthew Williamson brand collaborated with The Rug Company for a collection of four rugs using prints from his ready-to-wear collections. A year later he opened a flagship store on London’s Bruton Street, which graced the front cover

. However, his first wallpaper collection for Osborne & Little was still six years away (it launched in autumn 2013). However, it was clear that for someone with such a unique DNA design, it would only be a matter of time before he writ large on our homes.

And yet, when the first wallpaper collection began, he was nervous and worried about its reception. Would he be welcome in the inner sanctum of ‘within’? Oh yes indeed he was – the collection was a triumph. More importantly, something authentic, new and exciting had happened in what is a very crowded market.

In a press release at the time, Osborne & Little described him as “a unique talent in British fashion and its leading colourist”. Adding, “his original sense of design and color will translate beautifully into upholstery fabrics and wallpaper.” They were right. In fact, I even chose one of his last cards for my IDM office this season, as I honestly felt it captured the mood of the moment. See below. (I loved it so much, I ended up using it in my spare room at home too! And yes, O&L charged me for each roll.)

Since the first season. The BBC wasn’t sure at first, after all, wasn’t he a designer? It only took a few images of his interior projects to convince them this wasn’t a test toe landing. This was a gloriously deep dive into his true passion – creating spaces guided by the four pillars of his signature manuscript: nature, travel, color and pattern.

Fast forward to the present day and he spends most of his time in Deia, Mallorca, Spain, designing home accessories including rugs, lighting, furniture and wallpaper. You can see everything, as well as his full interior design portfolio, on his website (link below).

It also launched a homewares collection for March 2022 in collaboration with John Lewis. He is currently working on a cocktail bar for the London Cocktail Club, due to open sometime in spring 2022. And in 2023 Matthew’s first interior design book will be published by Thames and Hudson .

Matthew Williamson is one of the fashion designers. While he has the expected insecurities born of putting your soul up for trial every season, he’s incredibly down-to-earth, funny and honest. Perhaps it’s because he was born in Manchester and has that northern ability to call a spade a spade – refreshing in an industry renewed for its subjugation. Or maybe it’s just because it comes in fashion from a design point of view to make women look beautiful!

He is also disarmingly handsome. You think it’s the eyes: you feel that he really sees you, instead of just looking at you. But then, the best fashion designers are the ones who understand women and I think that has a lot to do with Matthew’s success and the loyalty he inspires.

Only clothes. And Matthew are romantic, ethereal, delicate and extremely feminine. They are also full of colors and patterns. It’s no surprise then that, in addition to running his own label, in 2005 he took over as creative director of the Italian luxury house Emilio Pucci, and in autumn 2007 he became the subject of a major retrospective at London’s Design Museum. .

It’s a fascinating insight into the influences and designs that have kept him at the helm since his debut ten years ago. But here’s an exclusive insight into the man himself…

Interior Design Masters With Alan Carr Review

What do you like least about yourself? I am a worker. My ambition can be positive and negative.

What does luxury mean to you? Time for myself. Or if we are talking about products then something that has longevity, but not necessarily something expensive.

If you were a vegetable, what would you be? I’d rather be a fruit. Can I be a cherry?

When you were a child, what did you want to be? A stylist. Specifically ask age 11, I wanted a shop with a pink sign over the door. My mom drew it for me.

Interior Design Masters’ Siobhan Murphy On Creating The Most Joyful Home In Yorkshire

What was your worst subject in school? Mathematics. It never added up, but it was pretty cool – all the lines were different colors.

What was the last thing you bought? A pair of gold Dries Van Noten shoes. They look like tap shoes from the forties. Dancing shoes!

If you were an animal, what would you be? A peacock. I hate to say that, but it’s true.

What would you do with the benefit of hindsight? There are many things I would do differently, but mistakes make you stronger. I would trust my instincts more.
