“I don’t believe in it,” she notes when asked about the possibility. “I don’t believe it and the other day someone said, ‘Oh, I see you’re here now and why are you retired.’ And I say, ‘No.’ I was in the bookstore, I was buying a book and the woman said, ‘Oh, so you’re reading a lot in your retirement’… and I started to turn around and give a whole lecture. not retired.’ But I thought, ‘OK, just take it’. I said, ‘Thanks, I don’t need a bag’.”

“I remember because Gayle called me that night saying something was going on and they weren’t telling her, and I was thinking, she can’t be dead because she’s not yet 40,” she continues. “So for every birthday I get to experience, I think it’s a gift and a blessing. I think about the people who didn’t survive.”
Winfrey is also grateful for the wisdom that comes with age. The media mogul says if she could say one thing to herself at 25, it would be to say no more often.

“When I was 25, I thought I had to say yes to everything anyone asked of me,” she admits. “I thought, ‘Well, they asked.’ And even Gayle says so far to me, ‘But they said it would mean a lot to them.’ I say, ‘But that doesn’t mean much to me.’ So the wonderful thing about being 65 is that you do exactly what you want to do.”
“If you can’t do that, if you can’t lay claim to doing exactly what you want, then you haven’t earned the right to be here,” she adds.

Winfrey on Thursday also shared a number of other endorsements in state gubernatorial elections and key races that will determine which political party will control the US Senate.
“That’s not the only race that matters,” Winfrey said. “If I was in North Carolina… Sister [Cheri] Beasley there, and if I was in Florida I would be supporting Val Demings. If I were in Wisconsin I would be Mandela Barnes, in Nevada I would be Catherine Cortez Masto. And in Texas, Beto O’Rourke and Raphael Warnock and the amazing Stacey Abrams, of course, in Georgia.
“So there are clear choices out there and some dynamic candidates who are working to represent the values – this is what we’re talking about – the values that we hold dear, the values of inclusivity, the values of compassion and community that so many of us share,” she continued.
