Where Home Alone Was Filmed Including The Mccallister Family’s House

The irrepressible Kevin McCallister aka Macaulay Culkin of Home Alone fame is now approaching 40, while the thugs Harry and Marv would be honest senior citizens.
For Winnetka residents who live near Home Alone on Lincoln Avenue, nearly three decades after the 1990 release of John Hughes’ holiday classic, the holiday classic still brings a steady stream of viewers to the North Shore neighborhood.
“That house brings us a lot of joy and some discomfort, but we’re all going to survive,” said longtime Lincoln Avenue resident Linda Martin, who lives near the redbrick Colonial fictionalized by the late Hughes and director Chris Columbus. The McAllister Family.
What’s Changed At The Iconic ‘home Alone’ House 30 Years Later
Martin recalls a few missteps in the early 1990s when the Home Alone cast and crew came around to him.
Her children’s school bus was confined to blocked streets, the high-voltage equipment and props of the film crew caused power outages, and the Martin family’s black Labrador developed an allergic reaction to the fake snow that blew around the family.
But for Martin and many of his neighbors, the joy their Home Alone home and other filming locations in the village have brought to countless visitors over the past three decades has outweighed the occasional inconvenience of turning their suburban street into a Hollywood landmark. landmark.
Martin Macaulay fondly remembers visiting Culkin’s children with their house rabbits, Frost and Moose, and recalls actor Daniel Stern, who played gangster Marv, as “simple, kind and kind” who, despite the fully stocked kitchen, bought hot cocoa from the neighborhood kids.

Even so, Martin said he never imagined that nearly three decades after the film’s debut, his hometown would still be a popular destination for visitors from around the world.
“When the marketing people at the studio visited our area before we started filming, they said it would take eight days, but it ended up taking about 30 days,” Martin said.
“The Home Alone experience in our district never ends and continues to this day,” he added.
Terri Dayson, executive director of the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce, remembers stepping on the artificial snow outside the Community House with her longtime resident, a 2-year-old and 8-month-old.
Things You Didn’t Know About Home Alone
“At first I was like, ‘What are they doing?’ I thought, and then I realized: “Oh, my! They’re filming here in Winnetka! ” says Dayson, who still enjoys watching Home Alone every holiday season with his family, including his grandchildren.
“My kids still watch Home Alone in awe and wonder now that they’re 32 and 30,” Dayson said. “Whenever we have guests, they want to see the Home Alone house. It must be hard for the family that lives there, but they put up a fence a few years ago so at least people don’t step on their windows and look in.
The Lincoln Avenue property, which has had several different owners in the three decades since the film’s release, has recently been renovated and remains “beautiful, well-maintained and still has the same feel,” Dayson said.
Ann Smith, a longtime resident, said the tourists, who stop illegally before taking selfies and group photos, are sometimes proud to live on the block known as “Home Alone.”

“A lot of people who live on the street love it and think it’s really fun,” Smith said. “Filming here was a big deal and it’s still a big deal. Whenever I pass by that house, I see someone taking pictures.”
Actor Kate Johnson stars in the film as Rose, a police dispatcher who receives a phone call from maddened matriarch Kate McCallister, played by Catherine O’Hara. He said the scene containing the line “Hyper Two” was filmed in a classroom on New Trier’s west campus.
“Larry (Henkin), the actor who plays police officer Larry Balzac, was eating a donut and got a piece stuck in the phone, and Chris (Columbus) saved the picture,” said Johnson, an Evanston resident.
“We had a script, we did the script, but then we just kept going because Chris let us,” Johnson said. “You can’t recreate that look … you just can’t do this thing.”
The ‘home Alone’ House Is Up For Rent On Airbnb Just In Time For The Holidays
Unbeknownst to the casting director, Johnson revealed that she was more than four months pregnant with her now 29-year-old son, Zeke Spector, when she filmed the police station.
He and his family recently attended a performance of “Home Alone in Concert,” a big-screen movie featuring a score by composer John Williams accompanied by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
“The scene that always blows my mind is when Kathryn O’Hara finally comes home and says, ‘Oh, Kevin, I’m sorry,’ it still makes me cry,” Johnson added.
Martin, a local real estate agent on Lincoln Avenue, said that while very few scenes were filmed inside his neighborhood’s most famous home, Winnetka Village was the backdrop for several other scenes in the film.
Where Was Home Alone Filmed
Officials at Trinity United Methodist Church in nearby Wilmette gave a nod to the film on their website: “To some, we’re the 1990 Home Alone church; to others, we’re a stunning Gothic Revival on the corner of Lake and Wilmette. But we are not film or architecture, stone or mortar. We are your neighbors and even your friends.’

Martin says he’s well aware that watching Home Alone every holiday season is a favorite family tradition for legions of fans in the U.S., and noticed the film’s global appeal during a recent trip abroad.
“We were walking in Kenya, and when the person taking the picture asked where we were from, I made a film sign with my hand and said, ‘Home Alone,’ and he was very excited and wanted to take a picture.” “My picture,” Martin said. “People all over the world love Home Alone. Exterior shots of the MCCALLISTER residence feature an exterior view of the home in Winnetka, Illinois. However, the scenes inside the building are part of an elaborate recreation of the iconic home built in the New Trier Township High School gymnasium.
People are still reeling from the revelation that the actual McCallister house was a way out of the trouble of filming.
