Wedding Dress Alterations 101
All wedding planners agree that, just like with a dress, it’s never too early to choose a wedding venue as one influences the other. Wedding on the beach in warm weather? Then consider a light boho style wedding dress. If you choose a more formal location, like a country estate, you can start looking for the silhouette of a princess. Did you get the idea? Decide on a venue and your wedding dress style will follow.
With a list of looks and a chosen location, it’s time to set up an appointment, virtual or physical, at the bridal boutique.
What most brides-to-be don’t realize is that a bridal shop is a bit like a traditional haute couture house. The dresses you see on the hangers are samples – whatever you choose will be custom made just for you. A wedding dress consultant will help you with your choice. You may find the dress of your dreams on your first visit, but it will likely take you a couple of trips with friends or family before you make your final decision.
Once your wedding dress is ordered, allow at least six months for shipping from the manufacturer (now you see why you need to start looking 9 months ahead?). When it arrives at the store, you will be called in for your first fitting, ideally 6-8 weeks before the wedding. This is when the hem length, bust and waist are adjusted to your exact body size so make sure you bring a pair of shoes with the same heel height that you will be wearing on your wedding day and maybe a bridesmaid so she can practice . fuss dress.
Tips To Finding Your Perfect Wedding Dress
This time you will have a much better idea of how the dress fits. Bring your underwear with you so your bra straps or panty lines aren’t visible, and if you haven’t chosen a veil or accessories yet, now is the time!

Once you select a location, you’ll be able to see special events, exclusive promotions, and information near you. The decision to go for a first look before the ceremony can be a little contentious for some engaged couples. “Tradition” tells us to wait for the altar to see the one we love on our wedding day, but trends have been shifting towards “first sight” for some time now. What is a first glance anyway? The first glance is the opening of the bride to someone else. It could be the bride surprising her bridesmaids, a loving revelation to her father or parent, but the most common first sight is that the bride and groom see each other alone before the wedding ceremony. At Emerson Fields, we’ve seen every first glance, first touch, opening, or intimate moment just for the bride and groom, so we thought we’d share some of the real couple’s thoughts on the matter.
Meghan and Jordan had their winter wedding at Emerson Fields. Steph Masat’s photography beautifully captured every moment of their December wedding, just as it happened. Steph, the photographer, is Jordan’s older sister, so the whole experience was family friendly and warm. Steph knew the couple didn’t plan the first look ahead of the ceremony, but as a photographer, she also knew to keep an eye on the weather and lighting. Winter weddings are getting shorter due to early sunsets, so timing is critical. The weather was very overcast that day and the portraits were in danger after the ceremony, so the couple and the photographer returned to their first conversation.
My Dream Wedding Venue Isn’t Available On My Date! What Now?
After all, on their wedding day, Meghan and Jordan decided to include a first look at the dock so they could enjoy a private and sweet moment together before the ceremony. They exchanged letters and they had a few minutes to think and just be together. Steph interviewed them after the wedding to find out how they feel about this big change in their wedding day schedule, and we’d like to share some of the photographer’s and newlyweds’ thoughts with you.
I would say that the most important thing my couples say when they are debating whether to do a first look or not is that they don’t want to take away the excitement of seeing each other for the first time walking down the aisle. Some couples are afraid that if they see each other early, it will take away the moment they see each other walking down the aisle. Since Jordan and Meghan had originally planned not to see each other, I decided to ask them how they felt when they first met and if they felt like it robbed them of a moment as they walked down the aisle.
Ultimately, Steph always follows the lead of her clients, but she also works with them to help them feel confident in their choices. We feel the same way at Emerson Fields! No matter what our couples at Emerson Fields choose, they still enjoy those special moments with the one they love.
The bottom line for all my couples: DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO! No wedding story is the same, and yours is absolutely unique. I will do absolutely everything in my power to make your day exactly the way you want it to be.
First Look With Bridesmaids
I think you can see from my expression that it didn’t spoil the emotional moment when she saw her walking down the aisle! (insert laughter) We’re so happy we watched it for the first time, we both feel like it added a sweet moment to our day at the pier that we wouldn’t have otherwise. This allowed us to take all of our wedding photos before the wedding and we both mentioned on numerous occasions that this was one of our favorite moments of the day. By the end of the ceremony and family photos, we were both tired of photos and if we didn’t have a first look, we would have to take all our wedding photos after family photos. WE ARE SO GLAD THAT WE DON’T HAVE TO DO THIS!
The first look was right for Meghan and Jordan and opened up the possibility of taking photos of the wedding party in the outdoor pavilion while they enjoyed the beautiful sunshine.
“There are things like the first look that absolutely help to make everything run smoothly and efficiently, especially if your wedding is in the winter when the lights go out quickly, but I will NEVER pressure you into doing something you don’t want to. do. . My job is to help you feel comfortable and confident in your choice on your wedding day! This means that I will give you all the options and you will ultimately decide! I’m here for you in your corner and can’t wait to celebrate with you!”
As a former wedding photographer, I have seen First Looks be so meaningful and really bring a sense of calm and relaxation to the rest of the wedding day. I have also seen the most sincere and emotional first look, when the bride walks down the aisle to her groom. ANYWAY – you can’t go wrong. Don’t worry about traditions. Nothing magical will happen if he doesn’t see you before the ceremony. You will no longer be married, deciding one way or another. It all culminates in what you both think is right for you, and it helps solidify the truth that your wedding day is the beginning of your married life, for better or worse. This promised alliance of partnership for life should always be the center of attention.
