How Much Do Ihss Providers Get Paid – Jackie Morganfield, Shasta County’s Service Employees International Unit (SEIU) Local 2015 representative, said she has been providing critical care as an In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) provider for the past five years.
She is one of 2,700 IHSS providers in Shasta County who care for some of the 3,600 people who qualify for services in Shasta County because they are elderly, disabled, or otherwise unable to live in their homes and care for themselves without assistance.

Speaking to the assembled crowd, Morganfield described her home care responsibilities for her daughter, who has two complex medical conditions, and the salary she receives for her care. “I provide paramedical services that include administering medications, giving injections, blood and urine tests, wound care, catheter care, ostomy irrigation, dialysis treatments, respiratory treatments,” Morganfield said, “and all for $14.60 an hour. “
As her daughter’s in-home care provider, she says she also loses her source of income when her daughter is not home because she is hospitalized, including the last time, when she was hospitalized for three months.
He told the crowd that inherent dignity and respect includes being paid a living wage. “We keep our loved ones safe, at home and outside of institutions,” she said, “We reduce abuse. We do more than home care, we do health care. But people who work in fast food do more than we do.”
Madeleine Clark, an SEIU care worker who spoke at the event, called long-term caregivers essential workers, saying: “We take on responsibilities comparable to nurses’ aides, hospice workers, counselors, physical and behavioral therapists. . . We may work long, even unpaid hours and lose sleep worrying about others because we have empathy, compassion, and a heart for others. We certainly don’t do it for the paycheck. However, Clark emphasized, “a paycheck is important.”
Ihss Providers May Be Eligible For $1200 Tax Credit
The Living Wage Calculator provides estimates by county of how much individuals need to earn to cover basic living expenses, including food, housing, medical care, child care, transportation and taxes. In Shasta County, the tool indicates that a living wage is $13.97/hour if the person pays for themselves only but increases exponentially when the person pays for one or more children.
Salaries for IHSS workers vary by county. SEIU 2015 recently announced a salary increase of sixty-five cents over the minimum wage in Lake County, bringing workers’ wages to $14.65 an hour. In Shasta County, where the IHSS base wage rate is currently $14.60, recent labor negotiations yielded an offer twenty-five cents an hour more than the minimum wage, according to Arnulfo de la Cruz, an executive vice president of SEIU 2015. Unions are pushing for more.
De la Cruz said the IHSS wage increase would be an investment in Shasta County’s economy because a relatively small percentage of IHSS wages are paid by the county, with the rest of the funding coming from state and federal sources. He said that by raising the wages of their largest publicly funded workforce, Shasta County could stimulate new local spending and economic growth.
While the level of care varies depending on the needs of home clients, some IHSS staff provide significant levels of support that include a number of skilled tasks. For clients who would need institutionalization without in-home care, the state of California says IHSS care providers represent a significant cost savings to taxpayers.

This is a straightforward form where you only need minimal information to set up your future transfer. To fill out the required information, you will need your bank name, bank routing number, checking or savings account number, your provider number, and the case number for which you are making the payment. Step 1 – Get a blank copy of the “In-Home Supportive Services Provider Direct Deposit Enrollment/Change/Cancellation Form” by downloading it using the “PDF” button on the right half of the page. If you want to enter information directly onscreen, you’ll need a PDF editor or form-friendly browser. If you do not have this software, you can print and then fill out this form.
Step 2 – The first line requires the name of the in-home supportive services provider for whom the direct deposit is to be entered. This line will be split into three boxes for each element of the name: first, middle initial, and last.

Step 3 – The second line requires the applicant provider’s street address. Use the box labeled “Street” to enter the building number, street and (if applicable) suite number of the provider’s address. Then use the “City,” “State,” and “Zip Code” boxes to report the provider’s city, state, and zip code.
Step 4 – Next, you’ll be presented with three check boxes, each labeled: “New,” “Change,” and “Cancel.” Place a check mark in the check box labeled “New” if you are starting a brand new direct deposit transfer to your account. If you have a direct deposit account set up and you are changing account information, place a check in the box labeled “Change.” If you currently have a Direct Deposit account and wish to terminate the Direct Deposit account you have set up, check the box labeled “Cancel”. Note: Each recipient must complete a separate form to report this information specific to that case.
Step 5 – Next, report the case number used for the person you are providing care in the box labeled “Case Number”. Then, enter your provider number in the box labeled “Provider Number”. Note: If you provide care to more than one recipient, you will need a separate form to report each case number.
Step 6 – On the line that begins with the words “Account Type,” check the first box and indicate whether you want the direct deposit transfer deposited into your checking account or if you want the money deposited into your savings. Account by checking the second box.

Step 7 – Each bank will have its own routing number as a means of identification. Enter the routing number used by the bank you’re linking the checking or savings account to direct deposit in the box labeled “Routing Number.” Usually, this is found on the bottom left of your personal check, but you can also call the bank that holds your account for this information.
Step 8 – On the line labeled “Account #,” report the checking or savings account to which you want to transfer the direct deposit amount.
