How To Get Clients For Interior Design Business

If you want more interior design clients, you need to attack the problem from different angles and avoid having only one source of leads.

You should also be doing some form of lead generation every day (even when you’re busy providing work to clients). This is how you will have a steady stream of clients waiting to work with you, with work booked months in advance.

Most lead generation activities are not particularly scalable – they require hard work, consistency and persistence. And most designers I meet who don’t get enough work simply aren’t putting in the necessary amount of effort to see the results they want.

⚠️ Warning: Lead by building relationships first – NOT by simply approaching someone and asking for something from them.

There is nothing worse than getting cold emails, calls, or DMs from people who clearly have no business wanting to give up on your success. Trust me, I get these emails every day and delete every single one!

How To Create A Successful Interior Design Portfolio?

Building partnerships is a strategy that requires a lot of effort on your part. It also takes time to build relationships and develop them to the point where people will be willing to send work to you.

But if you put in the effort, it will definitely pay off in the long run, and this is one of the main strategies I used to build my own interior design business.

Another immediate improvement you can make to your business today is to put together your Client Welcome Package. Here’s one I created for you – all you have to do is enter your business information and start sending it.

Most good designers get most of their work from referrals (which is fantastic because it means you’re doing great work).

BUT… the problem with this strategy is that many designers rely on referrals as their only new clients. They believe that their business will always continue to thrive from referrals, so they don’t put effort into other lead generation strategies. If you operate this way then you are putting your business at great risk as you never know when that referral flow might slow or even stop.

Even if you currently have more work than you can handle, you still need to keep working on generating leads so that your sales pipeline is always full.

If you’ve benefited from this post, remember that these are just some of the strategies you should be doing every day to ensure you have a steady stream of new leads coming to your business all the time.

Although it may seem impossible, landing your first client is one of the most exciting experiences for a new business owner. It’s an amazing feeling when someone trusts you with their time, resources and dreams for a renovation or new home. When starting their business, many interior designers quickly learn that there are several significant challenges to finding new clients, including:

Ultimately, with enough time spent growing your interior design business, you’ll likely be able to overcome many of these challenges and may even be out of a job. Although it may sound counterintuitive, being able to get rid of underpaying or difficult clients gives you a lot more negotiating power and the freedom to say no.

We’ve outlined 12 expert tips to help you tackle the challenges listed above and develop a concrete plan on how to attract new clients for your interior design business.

It sounds obvious, but there’s probably someone in your personal or professional network who’s going through a renovation or even building a new home. Ask your network for referrals and, although it may not be necessary, consider discounting your prices initially to get the first few customers. It’s a good idea to let your first customers know that you’re giving them a “first-time” discount to build your portfolio and earn referrals to friends, family or acquaintances.

Develop the habit of consistent digital marketing efforts, even if they are simple and you consider yourself a novice. The complexity of your marketing strategy is not as important as your commitment to regularity. To ensure that you are devoting time to the most important marketing efforts, we recommend focusing on at least the three areas below, as they are closely related and complementary:

get Clients?
— A Design Partnership

Social media marketing is one of the best tactics for interior designers because most social sites are designed to encourage media-based sharing and interaction. Posts with beautiful photos or designs are best for social media because they have a strong visual appeal and can be digested quickly and shared easily.

Platforms like Pinterest and Instagram are especially valuable because they only support video and images and are often used by your potential customers as they create mood boards and look for design inspiration online. Social media is also the perfect place to keep your finger on the pulse of interior design trends to use in your own work and marketing efforts.

Use NEO to share stunning 3D renderings of your projects that will grab the attention of prospects and followers alike. Tools like HootSuite or SproutSocial can help you increase your efficiency with creating and scheduling posts. Bonus tip: ask clients if you can share photos of their design project and if they would be willing to do the same, as this will give you some free publicity on their networks! Social media referrals are some of the most valuable word of mouth advertising.

Paid advertising, whether digital or print, is still a very effective way to increase your brand awareness and reach new potential customers. If you’re starting a new business or have a limited budget, consider digital advertising on platforms that provide access to your target audience but also give you strict parameters on the cost of each campaign. Digital advertising will allow you to quickly test multiple ad versions and determine which images, copy and messages resonate with your ideal buyers. When you find something that works, reallocate your ad budget to the most effective campaigns.

How To Write A Business Plan For Interior Design

While your brand doesn’t need to be perfect, it’s important to let your personal style shine through and reinforce the brand perception you want. Specifically, you’ll want to develop a company name, colors, logo, mission statement, and other customer-facing brand elements that build trust and inspire confidence.

Creating a thoughtful brand will also make it easier to charge higher prices. People are always willing to pay more for premium suppliers or those who have a perfect reputation in the industry. Be sure to display your brand on essential face-to-face sales tools, including business cards, flyers, printed brochures, and more.

Exercise professionalism in all aspects of your customer relationships. A professional demeanor matters because people will come back to you again and again for courteous, flexible service that meets their needs and requests. Clients often use the same vendor for projects for many years because they prefer the personal experience of working with a particular designer. A few simple examples of professional business behavior include:

Effective testimonials can range from a simple 1-sentence endorsement to an advanced video highlighting your best design project. Prospects are simply looking for social proof to confirm that you can do what you’ve quoted. You should use these positive reviews and testimonials everywhere, but the most
