Today, Dunkin’ Donuts officially launched a brand new frozen coffee, literally called Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee. A long-awaited alternative to coolata, this drink looks pretty simple at first glance. It is a blend of concentrated coffee, ice and milk, with additional flavors and sweeteners at the discretion of the individual.

But as I found out when I tasted this drink earlier this week, the key to making the perfect blended drink, which rivals the Dunkin family’s other offerings, wasn’t simply blending regular coffee with ice. . What the brand ended up with was a stronger concentrate than iced coffee concentrate, resulting in a blended drink closer to classic coffee versus a coffee coolata that’s more like a milkshake.
The resulting beverage has all the caffeine of a typical iced coffee and can be customized with the consumer’s choice of milk (including almond milk) and favorite flavor shots and swirls. For a limited time, these flavors may include Coconut Cream Pie and Butter Pecan, also available today.
Prior to its launch, the R29 staff conducted a tasting test, which shocked coffee coolata fans, some of whom said it was “200% tastier” than its predecessor.
